  In today’s business work place we are seeing an increase in absenteeism, worker’s compensation costs, theft, drug related problems, as well as, a lack of truthfulness and customer care by management and employees. The underlying reason for these problems is that we have trained our people in skills and taught them how to use these skills to achieve temporal success, but we have neglected to balance competency with character training. Theodore Roosevelt said, “To educate a person in mind, but not morals is to create a menace to society.”

In the last few months the media has reported large companies having severe financial troubles, because of a lack of truthfulness and integrity (character). Not only is this a symptom in large companies, but the same type problems are being demonstrated in small businesses too.

So what is the answer? The answer is in rebuilding the character base of our workforce, because character is the seed that will produce quality and lasting achievement.
